On Wednesday on the Tara Palmeri Show, Democratic strategist James Carville called out Democratic National Committee vice chair David Hogg during a heated debate over Hogg’s “insane” strategy to primary older Democrats.
The Gateway Pundit reported that Hogg announced his plan to spend $20 million from his organization, Leaders We Deserve, to try to replace Democrat lawmakers in safe districts with younger and more progressive candidates.
Carville called ‘contemptible little twerp‘ Hogg’s plan the “most insane thing” he’d ever heard.
Hogg returned fire in April during an appearance on CNN, “Carville believes in a politics of being timid, of hiding. I believe in fighting, and that is what people want to see right now from the Democratic Party.”
During Wednesday’s debate, Palmeri said to Carville, “You’ve said that members of the DNC should sue him for doing this, since David is a member of the party leadership.”
Carville responded, “I think it is abominable that an official of a political party that is being paid or supported by that political party to go out and raise money to defeat members of the same party. I think that’s jackassery of the highest level.”
“I’m not into beating Democrats. I’m into beating Republicans. And I’m going to tell you right to your face, I think it’s abominable that you have anything to do with the DNC if you’re going to go and raise $20 million to beat other Democrats.”
Carville continued, “Democrat voters: ‘Stop anointing your preferred candidates. Let the voters make decisions via the Democratic process.’ DNC: ‘We hear you loud and clear, which is why we’re putting our thumb on the scale.’”
Hogg attempted to assert himself stating,”You have to understand the nuance here—”
“I don’t,” Carville interrupted. “There’s no nuance to it. It’s just flat-out wrong. That’s money that could be used to beat Republicans to beat Democrats.”
“Win elections!” Carville shouted. “Win elections, you see, against Republicans.”
He continued, “You want my strategy? It’s to win elections. It’s not to win an election in Queens which you don’t ever run against a Republican. It’s to help Democrats win elections.”

Ultimately, the two did find some areas of common ground, including ‘electing the best Democrat possible,’ Democrats’ failure with male voters, and their shared criticism of Joe Biden refusing to step aside sooner in the election cycle.
After the dustup, Carville did some backtracking on social media, saying the DNC “needs” Hogg.

Despite the tepid words of support, Hogg is already facing a challenge for the role he has only been in for a few short months.
On May 12, the DNC’s credentials committee will meet virtually on May 12 to consider a challenge from Kalyn Free, a Native American attorney and party activist who lost a vice chair spot to Hogg at the party’s Feb. 1 meeting.
