The High Court of Justice in London has denied an appeal by Tommy Robinson to be released from solitary confinement after 142 days in HMP Woodhill. In dramatic scenes, Robinson had to hold up signs to communicate after the prison cut off his voice call from his cell, visibly underscoring the political nature of his imprisonment.
Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has been held in solitary confinement since his imprisonment Oct. 28 for the crime of screening his documentary “Silenced“, which has been viewed 163 million times now on X.
On Friday, Justice Chamberlain ruled against Tommy’s appeal for judicial review, scandalously claiming that he is not being held in “solitary confinement” at all, and that HMP Woodhill is perfectly justified in isolating Tommy from visitors and preventing him from speaking to his children.
“It is not accurate to refer to Mr Yaxley-Lennon’s regime as “solitary confinement” at all. I accept that the absence of association with other prisoners has an effect on his mental health, but it is not arguable that the regime as a whole gives rise to a breach of Article 3 (of the European Convention on Human Rights),” Judge Chamberlain espoused.
“The cancellation of visits and curtailment of calls with associates believed to run social media platforms is a proper response to the need to avoid the use of his incarceration for campaigning purposes,” Chamberlain wrote. He did not specify why Tommy should be denied freedom of speech because of “campaigning.”
Tommy is being held in solitary for 22 hours a day.
He is being denied visits from anybody with a social media account, for fear they may inform the world about the conditions he is being held in.
During a phone call with Tommy from HMP Woodhill, the phone was cut off and Robinson had to hold up hand-written notes reading “Silenced”, “They Cut My Phone Off”, “My Calls are monitored. They were listening and cut it off.”

At this point Tommy, who was on Zoom link to the court, held up his hand indicating his disagreement. Respect to the judge for noticing. He adjourned the hearing ‘to allow for Robinson to instruct his solicitor on accuracy of statement regarding his segregation regime made by Counsel for Sec State Justice’.
Then, in total contradiction to that special treatment we’d just regaled with, we all witnessed, via the Zoom link, Tommy, solo and alone at the door of his cell, unable to get any attention for the phone access to his solicitor that the judge specifically had requested. What was the Governor of Woodhill, Nicola Marfleet, doing? On this case that so closely involved her? Finally a corridor prison guard responded to Tommy’s calls. It was a moment of truth, shining light on the deceit.
The judge then adjourned the court for half an hour.
Embarrassing truth was to follow the moment it resumed. In a further devastating contradiction of the Ministry of Justice counsel’s ‘cushy treatment’ narrative, Tommy’s solicitor reported the prison had cut Tommy off mid-call. A crude attempt, it appears, to stop Tommy briefing his KC as to the reality. In the middle of a hearing about abusive conditions! The judge was not amused. He told the prison counsel to expedite it: ‘We do require the prison to facilitate the calls and ensure he has a fair opportunity to instruct his solicitor.’
Nevertheless, Justice Chamberlain ruled against Tommy Robinson and could see no infringement on Tommy’s human rights.
Tommy’s legal team, which is being supported by Elon Musk, has submitted an appeal of his sentencing for contempt of court. The date set for the appeal is April 11th.
