The former U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe has described President Trump’s ban on women in men’s sports as “cruel and depraved.”
Rapinoe made the remarks during a profile interview with MUNDIAL magazine over Trump’s changes to federal Title IX rules that prohibit biological men from playing in women’s sports.
“Don’t tell me it’s about the rights of women’s sports,” Rapinoe railed. “That is totally disingenuous to say that.”
The 40-year-old went on to claim that Trump biological men competing against women “isn’t an issue,” despite the widespread public opposition to the practice.
“I think it’s just really cruel,” she continued. “You know, if you strip it all back, it’s just kind of cruel and depraved.”
”This isn’t an issue, and you aren’t going to be able to Executive Order trans people out of existence,” she continued.
“We’ve just gone through a very long period over ten years of really needing to fight just to get to a baseline of, like, equal rights and non-discriminatory behavior, and when people stop just shitting on women’s sports.”
Under the terms of his executive order, “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” the stated policy is to “oppose male competitive participation in women’s sports more broadly, as a matter of safety, fairness, dignity, and truth.”
“In recent years, many educational institutions and athletic associations have allowed men to compete in women’s sports,” the order states.
”This is demeaning, unfair, and dangerous to women and girls, and denies women and girls the equal opportunity to participate and excel in competitive sports.”
The World Cup winner added that she was “hopeful” people do not actually support Trump’s dastardly policies.
“I am nervous, but I am also hopeful. I believe in people, and I certainly believe in women, and I believe that people want better than the grim, dark, just violent reality that Donald Trump has very clearly laid out for us,” she insisted.
Following Trump’s historic election victory back in November, Rapinoe said she was feeling “overwhelmed” with sadness and anger.
“To see such a hateful message really resonate with such a large percentage of the electorate – I think that’s just hard to look at,” Rapinoe said.
“I think we always know that it’s there. Let’s not be naive about this – this is America, and we were founded on slavery and inequality.”
