An embalmer in Houston was arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse this week after allegedly castrating a dead sex offender, stabbing him twice and shoving his severed genitals down his throat.
Amber Laudermilk allegedly committed the crime in front of an embalming student at the Memorial Mortuary & Crematory last month.
Laudermilk allegedly told the student, “You didn’t see anything,” after she took a scalpel to 58-year-old Charles Roy Rodriguez’s groin.
The New York Post reported that according to the charging documents, when questioned why Rodriguez was “disfigured,” Laudermilk said he had “a lot going on with him.”
It is unclear how Laudermilk knew Rodriguez was a sex offender. He was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman back in 2001.
Police said Laudermilk turned herself in and a $5,000 bond has been set.
Full statement from Harris County Constable Precinct 1:
Embalmer charged with castrating corpse of sex offender.
A Houston woman who worked at a funeral home is accused of mutilating the body of a dead sex offender.
Amber Paige Laudermilk, 34, who was employed as an embalmer, is charged with Abuse of a Corpse, a State Jail Felony. Texas Department of Criminal Justice
She is accused of using a scalpel in February 2025 to savage the body of Charles Roy Rodriguez, 58, a registered sex offender, who received 10 years of Deferred Adjudication after being charged with Sexual Assault in 2001.
“This case is about two troubled people: the victim who was a registered sex offender and the defendant, who is accused of viciously attacking his dead body,” Precinct One Constable Alan Rosen said. “No matter what one thinks of his life, the law requires that he be treated with dignity in death.”
“I don’t know the suspect’s past, but we have the utmost empathy for anyone who has been the victim of a sexual assault or is the family or friend of someone who has been the victim of a sexual assault,” Rosen said. “The facts clearly indicate she was angry and I hope after this is resolved in the courts, she gets the help she needs.”
A charging document filed in Harris County District Clerk’s Office states that Laudermilk stabbed and castrated Rodriguez’s body as well as carried out additional abuses. She was in the presence of an embalming student at the time of the incident, according to the document.
Rodriguez died of natural causes at a Houston hospital in January.
He is listed in the Texas Department of Public Safety sex-offender registry.
The Texas Funeral Service Commission referred the incident to the Office of Harris County Constable Precinct One for further investigation.
