The Trump administration has made a decisive move by deploying the U.S. Army, the U.S. Marine Corps, and other military personnel to the Southern border.
This deployment, which includes 1,500 troops—with 500 Marines from Camp Pendleton—is part of a broader strategy to combat the invasion of illegal immigrants.
This military action follows President Trump’s recent executive orders aimed at bolstering border security and comes amid growing concerns over the influx of migrants attempting to enter the U.S. illegally.
Trump wrote in his executive order:
“Over the last 4 years, the United States has endured a large-scale invasion at an unprecedented level. Millions of illegal aliens from nations and regions all around the world successfully entered the United States where they are now residing, including potential terrorists, foreign spies, members of cartels, gangs, and violent transnational criminal organizations, and other hostile actors with malicious intent.
Deadly narcotics and other illicit materials have flowed across the border while agents and officers spend their limited resources processing illegal aliens for release into the United States. These catch-and-release policies undermine the rule of law and our sovereignty, create substantial risks to public safety and security, and divert critical resources away from stopping the entry of contraband and fugitives into the United States.
We have limited information on the precise whereabouts of a great number of these illegal aliens who have entered the United States over the last 4 years.
This cannot stand. A nation without borders is not a nation, and the Federal Government must act with urgency and strength to end the threats posed by an unsecured border.
One of my most important obligations is to protect the American people from the disastrous effects of unlawful mass migration and resettlement.
My Administration will marshal all available resources and authorities to stop this unprecedented flood of illegal aliens into the United States.”
The troops’ primary mission will be to assist the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and ensure the enforcement of U.S. immigration laws.
According to U.S. Northern Command, which is leading the mission, the deployment includes military police, Army engineers, and Marine Corps engineers. These forces are tasked with installing physical barriers and enhancing detection and monitoring capabilities along the border.
As of this week, 1,500 troops, including a notable contingent of 500 Marines from Camp Pendleton, have been stationed along critical points of entry, with the administration signaling that this could be just the start of a larger military presence.
According to the Department of Defense:
“The 1,500 additional active-duty service members authorized by Salesses will initially be put to work on the placement of physical barriers and other border missions within the next 24 to 48 hours, a senior military official told the media. The service members include 1,000 soldiers, as well as 500 Marines who had previously been on standby in Southern California to potentially help combat the Los Angeles County wildfires that broke out two weeks ago, the senior official said.
With 2,500 active-duty personnel already in the region, the additional 1,500 troops will represent a 60% increase in active-duty forces since the president was sworn in on Monday, Salesses remarks in his statement.”

A senior military official, according to ABC News, hinted that the troop count could potentially escalate to 10,000 depending on emerging needs.
The news outlet reported:
Two U.S. officials told ABC News on Thursday afternoon that the first of 500 Marines bound for the border would be shipping out in the coming hours and Army units would be in transit later in the day. A good number of the Army troops will be military police, but they will not be carrying out law enforcement duties, according to other officials.
In addition, four military cargo planes are being positioned for use in deportation flights — a C-17 and C-130 in San Diego and another C-17 and C-130 at Fort Bliss, Texas. So far only the C-17 to Ft. Deportation flights cannot begin until the State Department arranges details, which could take some time.
The U.S. Northern Command said in a news release Thursday that it is “aggressively” bolstering security at the border. About 1,500 soldiers and Marines are “immediately” deploying to the region to augment the approximately nearly 2,500 service members already there supporting CBP’s mission at the border.
