The Biden regime claimed today that an actor from our nation’s most formidable foreign adversary hacked the Treasury Department and gained access to workstations of government employees and unclassified documents.
In a letter to the Senate Banking Committee leadership, which Agence France-Presse obtained, the Treasury Department alleged the following:
“Based on available indicators, the incident has been attributed to a China state-sponsored Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) actor.”
The letter states that a third-party software service company, BeyondTrust, informed the Treasury Department on December 8th that the ‘Chinese’ hacker had acquired a security key to infiltrate specific Treasury workstations and documents remotely.
The Treasury Department went on to claim that it had partnered with the F.B.I., the intelligence community, and other investigators to determine the impact of the breach. The compromised service had been taken offline.
If one believes the regime, there is reportedly no evidence that the Chinese state actor still has access to Treasury materials.
“The compromised BeyondTrust service has been taken offline, and there is no evidence indicating the threat actor has continued access to Treasury systems or information.” a Treasury Department spokesperson stated.
Newsmax reports that the Treasury Department refused to provide additional details regarding the incident. The agency did claim they would be releasing a supplemental report at a later date.
As TGP readers know, the PRC has been linked to one of the most significant cyber espionage incidents in history. These breaches have infiltrated at least eight U.S. telecom companies and impacted dozens of other countries over at least two years.
This operation, labeled “Salt Typhoon,” compromised private communications and customer call records, primarily targeting government and political figures, including President Trump. As The New York Times reports, Microsoft’s cybersecurity team discovered the hacking gave China access to conversations held by Trump and incoming Vice-President JD Vance, among other Americans.
The hackers copied information requested by U.S. law enforcement through court orders.
However, despite ongoing efforts to address the attack, breaches remain active in U.S. telecom networks. Chalk that up to more Biden regime incompetence.
Moreover, Chinese hackers have been implicated in a long history of cyberattacks targeting U.S. government entities, critical infrastructure, and private companies.
