Police have declined to charge a man who drove an allegedly stolen car to Mar-a-Lago and asked to speak to President-elect Donald Trump on November 14.
Farbod Dolat, 53, of Sarasota, was initially ordered by a judge to have no contact with Trump, Mar-a-Lago, or any of Trump’s other properties, but that order has since been cancelled.
“Although there was probable cause to make an arrest, the evidence cannot prove all legally required elements of the crime alleged and is insufficient to support a criminal prosecution,” Assistant State Attorney Michael G. Kridos wrote in a filing on December 18, according to a report from The Palm Beach Post.
The report explains that Dolat was driving a car that an acquaintance rented.
They had gone out together so she could purchase a car. While she was taking out the money in a bank, Dolat took the car and drove to Mar-a-Lago.
The woman went to Dolat’s home to look for him, but when she couldn’t find him, she reported the theft to the police.
Police have not disclosed what Dolat was trying to speak to Trump about or his plan.
The Palm Beach Post reports:
Dolat is one of at least five people who have tried and failed to reach Trump at Mar-a-Lago since July 13, when a gunman injured the then-presidential candidate and two others and killed one person during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
Since the July incident, the U.S. Secret Service said it increased security around Trump, his properties and all of the people the agency protects. Following the Secret Service’s foiling of an apparent assassination attempt at Trump’s suburban West Palm Beach golf club in September, security grew even tighter around Mar-a-Lago.
